भारतीय वन सेवा (Indian Forest Service या IFS) भारत की एक प्रतिष्ठित अखिल भारतीय सेवा है, जिसे भारतीय वन्य संसाधनों की रक्षा, संरक्षण और प्रबंधन के उद्देश्य से स्थापित किया गया है। यह सेवा 1966 में स्थापित हुई थी और इसका मुख्य उद्देश्य देश के वन्य जीवन, पारिस्थितिकी और पर्यावरण की सुरक्षा करना है।

IFS अधिकारियों की भूमिका और जिम्मेदारियां:

वन्य संसाधनों का प्रबंधन: IFS अधिकारी वन्य क्षेत्रों, राष्ट्रीय उद्यानों, वन्यजीव अभयारण्यों और संरक्षित क्षेत्रों के प्रबंधन के लिए जिम्मेदार होते हैं। उनका काम यह सुनिश्चित करना होता है कि वन्यजीवों की सुरक्षा हो और वनों का सतत विकास हो सके।
संरक्षण परियोजनाएं: IFS अधिकारी वन्यजीव संरक्षण, वनीकरण और वन्यजीव संरक्षण परियोजनाओं का संचालन करते हैं। वे वन्यजीवों की संख्या, वनस्पतियों और वन्यजीव पारिस्थितिक तंत्र का अध्ययन और संरक्षण करते हैं।
नीति निर्माण: IFS अधिकारी पर्यावरण और वन्यजीव संरक्षण से संबंधित नीतियों के निर्माण में भी शामिल होते हैं। वे सरकार को वन्यजीव संरक्षण और पर्यावरण संरक्षण से जुड़े मामलों पर सलाह देते हैं।

IFS अधिकारियों का चयन भारतीय सिविल सेवा परीक्षा (UPSC) के माध्यम से किया जाता है। चयनित उम्मीदवारों को देहरादून स्थित इंदिरा गांधी राष्ट्रीय वन अकादमी (IGNFA) में विशेष प्रशिक्षण दिया जाता है। प्रशिक्षण में वानिकी, वन्यजीव प्रबंधन, पर्यावरण संरक्षण, कानून, और प्रशासन से संबंधित विषय शामिल होते हैं।

IFS सेवा का उद्देश्य केवल वन्यजीवों और वन संसाधनों की रक्षा करना नहीं है, बल्कि पारिस्थितिक संतुलन बनाए रखना और भविष्य की पीढ़ियों के लिए पर्यावरण को संरक्षित करना भी है।

Roles and Responsibilities of IFS Officers:

Conservation Projects: IFS officers oversee wildlife conservation, afforestation, and environmental protection projects. They study and conserve wildlife populations, plant species, and ecological systems within forests.
Policy Formulation: IFS officers contribute to the development of policies related to environmental and wildlife conservation. They advise the government on matters concerning forest and environmental protection.
Forest Crime Control: IFS officers enforce laws to prevent illegal logging, poaching, and wildlife crimes. They take strict action against the illegal exploitation of forests and wildlife.
Collaboration with Local Communities: IFS officers work closely with local communities, raising awareness about the importance of wildlife conservation and sustainable use of forest resources. They also implement social forestry programs in rural areas.

Training and Appointment:

IFS officers are selected through the Indian Civil Services Examination (conducted by UPSC). Selected candidates receive specialized training at the Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy (IGNFA) in Dehradun. The training includes subjects related to forestry, wildlife management, environmental protection, law, and administration.

The IFS aims not only to protect wildlife and forest resources but also to maintain ecological balance and preserve the environment for future generations.
